Raleigh to roll out recycling carts to 30000 residents

The city of Raleigh will begin Tuesday delivering 95-gallon blue recycling roll carts to more than 30,000 residents in an effort that's expected to save up to $2 million annually and allow people to recycle more.

The rollout, the fourth and final phase of a multi-year move to replace 18-gallon green recycling bins, is expected to be complete by late August.

Pickup service will begin after Labor Day, and because the new carts are five times bigger than the recycling bins, customers will see a change in the pick-up schedule.

Service will be every other week, instead of weekly. Information about the changes will accompany the roll carts when they are delivered.
